KUCHING: As a result of being involved in illegal online gambling activities, a 28-year-old woman was fined RM10,000, in default two months’ jail, by the Magistrates’ Court here on Friday (Aug 19).
Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi sentenced Nur Hazimah Zainol after she pleaded guilty to the charge read out by an interpreter.
She was charged with running a gambling game using a mobile phone at a mini grocery store, Kuching Central Land, at around 5.50pm on July 22.
Based on the case brief, a police team from Padawan raided a mini grocery store and arrested a woman at the counter on suspicion of online gambling activities.
A smartphone and cash amounting to RM49 were seized as evidence.
The prosecution of the case was handled by ASP Rogayah Rosli while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
