Woman succumbs to injuries after 40-hour struggle

The victim’s motorcycle got stuck under a stationary lorry by the roadside along KM2, Jalan Mukah-Oya.

MUKAH: A motorcyclist lost her life after a 40-hour battle for survival following a tragic accident along KM2, Jalan Mukah-Oya last Thursday (Sept 21).

The victim, identified as Nawwarah Asfakhira Zahir, 25, succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at Sibu Hospital at 9.36pm on Friday (Sept 22).

Mukah police chief DSP Muhammad Rizal Alias said the accident happened around 5.40am on Thursday when the victim, who was riding her motorcycle alone, collided into a stationary lorry by the roadside.

“Based on information received, Nawwarah was employed as a cashier at a petrol station in Mukah.

“Due to the severity of her injuries, she was initially rushed to Mukah Hospital but was later transferred to Sibu Hospital for advanced medical care,” he said.

Sadly, despite the efforts of medical professionals, Nawwarah was pronounced dead on Friday night.

Rizal stated that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
