BALINGIAN: The women’s petanque tournament, recently held at Balingian Riverbank, witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents.

The event was collaboratively organised by the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Balingian Branch and the Balingian Boules Sports Club.

Balingian Boules Sports Club secretary Abdul Faeizwan Daud explained that the primary goal of the tournament was to strengthen bonds among women in Balingian, irrespective of their age groups.

“Furthermore, it aims to foster a sense of camaraderie among women in the Balingian area. Alhamdulillah, despite being a closed event, the public’s participation was quite encouraging.”

Expanding on the details, he mentioned that a total of 16 pairs, comprising 32 participants, engaged in the tournament.

The first-place honours were secured by Maharani Pawi and Rubiah Zaini, with the second place going to Kasina Mahruf and Rina Mahruf, and the third place claimed by Noraziyah Beri and Rosnie Seruji.

Abdul Faeizwan expressed his hope that they can further promote the sport of petanque in Balingian by increasing the frequency of tournaments in 2024.

He added that hosting more tournaments in the area would contribute to nurturing talented players capable of competing at higher levels in the future.
