KUCHING: The construction of the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) complex at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee is progressing well despite initial delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic which halted work.

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil hoped to have the complex ready by the end of next year.

“The project was delayed by Covid-19. However, we certainly hope the building will be completed by the end of next year,” he told a press conference after handing over Unifor grants to Roman Catholic mission schools for the year 2022 at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here, today.

Once completed, Dr Penguang said the complex will boast a unique feature and believed it will stand out in the area.

“The building also symbolises that we are one and do not discriminate any religion,” he added.

Previously, a ground-breaking ceremony was held in October 2020. A sum of RM70 million was set aside by the Sarawak government for the building.
