KUCHING: The public deserves the best from the police, and vice versa, says State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) head SAC Dennis Leong.
He urged communities to work with law enforcement to combat crime, and to try and understand the difficulties faced by police officers.
“We must continue to make Kuching great and by doing so, we have to render excellent service to the people with integrity and hard work.
“Once, the people have confidence in us, we will be able to work hand in hand with them to fight crime and to keep it at bay,” he said yesterday during the handing over of duties by retiring Kuching police chief ACP Ng Ah Lek to Supt Ismail Mahmood, who will be acting district police chief.
SAC Leong also reminded policemen to be compassionate and determined in their job.
Meanwhile, he said for a man (ACP Ng) to contribute 38 years of his life to the force was not something simple, but extraordinary.
He said policemen like Ng had contributed a lot, and he wished ACP Ng all the best in his future endeavours.
