Construction workers try their best to lift the bulldozer to extricate the crushed victim.

KAPIT: A construction worker at Baleh Dam was killed after being crushed by a bulldozer while at work last Thursday.

District police chief DSP Freddy Bian Stanislaus said the incident happened at 5pm.

The accident happened when a bulldozer driven by a 33-year-old Pakistani worker skidded and crushed the victim who was cleaning the roadside ditch at the construction site.

“As a result, the 32-year-old victim identified only as Putai, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Police only received a report regarding the incident from his employer at 6.30pm on Friday,” Freddy pointed out.

He added that the bulldozer driver, who was also injured, was referred to a private hospital in Sibu for treatment.

During the accident, four other men – three Bangladeshis and a Chinese national, were also reportedly injured.

“It is understood that all the victims involved are employees of the same construction company,” he explained.

The local police chief said the victim’s body was taken to Kapit Hospital for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
