MIRI: A youth was arrested by police after he was caught red-handed stealing electric cables from a shophouse at Piasau Industrial Estate here, last Sunday.

The 22-year-old man was nabbed at around 8.30pm by police personnel from the Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) Unit.

Miri Deputy Police chief, Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the police personnel were conducting patrol in the area when they spotted a Toyota Unser parked in a dark spot.

“The police personnel then checked the shophouses located not far from the Toyota Unser and saw the suspect pulling and cutting the electric cables,” he said.

Stanley said besides the arrest, the police also seized 16 rolls of electric cables, an iron cutter, a screwdriver, a torchlight and the Toyota Unser.

He said the suspect was remanded to assist in the investigation.
