KUCHING: A local youth charged with possessing 204g of cannabis claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court here today.
Muhamad Azizul Bujang pleaded not guilty to the charge which was read out by an interpreter before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.
He and his friends allegedly committed the offence at Jalan Tabuan Park in Tabuan Jaya around 10 pm on Feb 21.
The accused was charged under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The offence is punishable under Section 39(2) of the same act which carries the mandatory death sentence or life imprisonment and not less than 15 strokes, if convicted.
The court set pre-trial case management on April 1.
Prosecuting officer ASP Rogayah Rosli prosecuted the case while the accused was represented by lawyer Gerald Empaling Donald.
