KUCHING: Edutainment organised by Whatmatters Sdn Bhd, presenting ‘The Hearth Brought To Light; Food Over Fire Festival’ is meant to learn the traditions and heritage of ancestors of various ethnicities in Sarawak. It will run from Nov 25 until Dec 4.

Creative Director of The Hearth Brought To Light; Food Over Fire Festival, Marian Chin said the event will be held in two locations which are inside the courtyard of Fort Margherita and the Old Court Building, here in Kuching.

“Hearth (wooden stove) once upon a time was not only used as a place for cooking; in fact many ceremonies and customs were conducted using it by various ethnic groups in Sarawak.

“Thus, the purpose of us holding this festival is to bring everyone together like a family and hold activities to get to know their customs and origins,” she said when holding a press conference yesterday at the old court (medicine room).

According to Marian they are some pivotal points of this 10-day event such as reconstructing two life hearths for the performances, elevating our unique and diverse indigenous ethnic customs and traditions oriented around the hearth which is traditionally understood as the centre of a family/household and lifestyle and many more.

She said that this would be the first ArtsFAS’s flagship festival event representing Sarawak and the first ever Food Over Fire Festival event to be held in Malaysia. Thus they seek your kind support in covering and promoting this 10-day edutainment programme (cultural/heritage performances, live exhibitions and the Food Over Fire festival event).
