10 independent candidates fail to win, one waiting

KUCHING: A total of 10 independent candidates in Sarawak who contested in the 15th general election did not manage to win any seats.

They are among the total of 92 candidates, who had contested in 31 parliamentary seats in the state.

The independent candidates are Affendi Jeman who contested in Santubong parliamentary; Dr Alim Impira (Serian); Datuk Masir Kujat (Sri Aman); Hasbie Satar (Betong); and Elly Lawai Ngalai (Julau).

Meanwhile, Kanowit which saw three candidates as independent also did not manage to pull through.

They are Michael Lias, George Chen and Dr Elli Luhat.

Datuk Wong Ting Kiong who contested as an independent in the Lanang parliamentary seat also lost.

In Selangau, Henry Joseph Usau who contested as an independent candidate also did not get a chance.

As for the parliamentary seat of Baram, the fate of Wildredentika who contested as an independent candidate is still not known.

This is in view that the voting process was postponed due to the bad weather condition and the new date for voting will be announced by the Election Commission (EC) at a later date.
