10 teens among 13 picked up in viral assault-turned-murder case

KUCHING: Police arrested 13 individuals on suspicion of being involved in an assault-turned-murder incident at Batu Kawah here last week.

Outgoing Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said that those arrested included 10 teenagers.

He said police received a report around 6.45 am on Oct 31 on a fight between a hotel employee and a group of men.

“The case was initially classified under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

“However, the victim died from injuries and the case has been reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

“All of them are still under remand and the case will be referred to the deputy public prosecution office for further instructions,” he said, adding that incident took place outside a hotel in Batu Kawah.

According to sources, the victim in his 50s, was taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) by his daughter for immediate treatment.

However, he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
