LAWAS: About 1,000 secondary school students aged 16 to 17 started receiving their first dose of Covid-19 vaccination from four vaccination centres (PPV) in Lawas on Friday (Sept 10).

The Sarawak Information Department (JaPen) said that the students involved in the inoculation were from four schools, namely SMK Lawas, SMK Trusan, SMK Sundar, and SMK Merapok.

The students from respective schools will receive their vaccination at PPV Dewan Masyarakat Long Tuma, Dewan Masyarakat Trusan, Dewan Masyarakat Sundar, and Dewan Masyarakat Kampung Masjid Baru Merapok respectively.

“These PPVs will operate starting Sept 10 to Sept 12, from 8am to 5pm,” said Japen.

Meanwhile, all students are required to bring their identity card (IC) and their health report card during registration; and they must be accompanied by either one of their parents or their guardians.

The head of PPV in Long Tuma, Dr Izzat Afifi Ismadi said that 174 doses of Pfizer vaccine have been supplied for the first day of operation.

He added that the volunteers stationed to facilitate the vaccination administration at the PPVs included teachers from respective schools.

“I hope the parents are willing to cooperate by bringing their children to the PPV according to the time set to ensure the vaccination process runs smoothly,” Dr Izzat said. At the same time, 12 students categorised as people with disabilities (OKU) also received their first vaccination jab on Friday, with six of them receiving it from the Lawas Hospital.
