12 NGOs receive MRP grants

BETONG: Twelve non-governmental organisations (NGOs) here have received Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants totalling RM137,000.

Of the total amount, RM116,000 MRP grants came from Betong MP Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat.

Among the recipients were Saberkas Layar Branch, Layar Education Development Committee (LEDC), Che Zhong Khor Betong Moral Uplifting Organisation, Welfare and Recreation Committee of Betong Information Department, Kampung Selulap Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) as well as two churches, namely, Saint Margaret and Saint Augustine.

Other recipients were the Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) of SMK Datuk Patinggi Kedit and SK Nanga Passa; the grants were to improve the infrastructure at the two schools.

Present to hand over the cheques for the grants was Layar assemblyman Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu.

During the event, Rentap, who is also Assistant Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, also presented his own MRP grant cheque to Saberkas, JKKK Rumah Jonathan Serian Ili and two women’s bureaus, Ban Ulu and Semumok Atas Asal, valued at RM21,000.
