KUCHING: Following a recent pledge, CID Sarawak went knocking on the doors of massage parlours and reflexology centres in the state suspected of employing foreign prostitutes, said State CID chief, SAC Dato’ Dev Kumar.
He added that from information received some of the reflexology centres may be offering other “services” other than massaging.
From 1 April to 17 April, teams from CID HQ and districts conducted 12 ‘Ops Noda’ raids at reflexology centres and massage parlours in the state namely six in Sibu, three in Miri and one each in Kuching, Bintulu and Padawan.
The three raids in Miri were conducted by teams from CID HQ while the rest were conducted by teams from the respective districts.
A total of 42 foreign women were arrested comprising 16 Indonesians, 12 Vietnamese, seven Chinese and seven Thais. Ten caretakers of the premises were also arrested.
“Various items relating to sexual activities were seized during the raids which confirmed our suspicion that these premises were actually prostitution dens being operated under the guise of reflexology centres. The arrestees are being investigated for various offences under the Penal Code and Immigration Act,” said Dev Kumar. said.
“We (State CID) will continue to raid premises in the state suspected of promoting vice activities,” Dev Kumar said.
