12 suspects nabbed for substance abuse

Various drugs consisted of syabu and Erimin 5 pills were seized by Kuching narcotic police in a nine-day operation around the district.

KUCHING: Narcotic police here arrested 21 individuals on suspicion of engaging in substance abuse and seized various drugs in a series of raid from Nov 15 to 23.

Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah, who confirmed the case, said the nine-day operation was carried out around the district by a 10-man narcotic police team.

Among the locations raided are Lorong Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, Lorong Tunku Petra, Jalan Astana, Kampung Tabuan Hilir and Jalan Ban Hock.

“All the suspects, including a woman, were locals aged between 20 and 44 years. The police also seized 9.5g of syabu and an Erimin 5 pill from them.

“Background checks found that nine of them had past records related to drugs.

“We have recorded 17 cases from the operation. One of them is investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952; five cases under Section 12 (2); and 11 cases under Section 15 (1)(a),” he said.

Aside from that, the police in collaboration with a courier service managed to seize 9,060 Erimin 5 pills inside numerous red and silver foil sheets on Tuesday (Nov 23).

Ahsmon said the drugs with an estimated market value of RM135,960, were seized under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He noted that the police always welcome any drug-related information from the public so that legal actions can be taken.
