12th APSTH congress to convene at BCCK, Kuching from Oct 19 to 21

KUCHING: The 12th Congress of Asian-Pacific Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis (APSTH) will be held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) from October 19 to 21.

Themed “Hemostasis and Thrombosis: Bench to Bedside”; it is set to bring together leading experts, scientists, clinicians and professors in the fields of thrombosis and hemostasis to share the latest advancements and foster collaboration.

The APSTH congress is an integral part of the medical and scientific community, dedicated to promoting excellence in laboratory research and clinical practice in the care of patients who develop bleeding or clotting disorders.

In a statement today, it stated that the meeting will be the first congress to be held in Malaysia and it will continue its tradition of providing a platform for professionals to share their expertise and innovative solutions, addressing the most critical issues in this field.

The event is supported by Asian-Pacific Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis (APSTH), Malaysian Laboratory Hematology Society (MMLHS), Malaysian Society of Hematology (MSH) and International Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis (ISTH).

More than 700 delegates are expected to attend the congress with experts from more than 20 countries to share their insights on the exciting developments in the field of thrombosis and hemostasis.

It will start with two pre-congress sessions; an interactive hands-on workshop at the daycare centre of the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and followed by case based discussions led by experienced local and international haematologists on the next day; to provide practical skills and knowledge to improve on patient care and outcomes.

The three-day congress will encompass bleeding and clotting problems from womb to tomb, ranging from congenital disease like haemophilia, managing pre and postoperative anticoagulation, women with bleeding problems especially during pregnancy to blood clots associated with cancer.

Similarly, there will be concurrent sessions in the laboratory looking at advances in laboratory techniques to make diagnosis more accurate and faster.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the latest scientific breakthroughs, through a series of engaging sessions and presentations. Some of these presentations will be live-streamed all across the Asia Pacific for the benefit of delegates who are unable to attend this meeting.

The key highlight of this congress will be the prize of Young Investigator Awards for the best oral presentations. For that, they have an extensive lineup of research and oral communications with more than hundreds of posters and oral communications submitted by researchers from around the world vying for this prize during the congress.

Meanwhile, a dedicated exhibition area will showcase the latest innovations, products, and services from leading companies and organisations in the field, while Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian will be hosting a gala dinner for the event.
