BETONG: A 13-foot python weighing 25 kilograms was successfully captured within three minutes after attempting to escape.

Civil Defense Force (APM) Betong officer Captain Siti Huzaimah Ibrahim said the APM was alerted of the presence of the python in the open space of the Betong Metro Polytechnic (PMBS) at 2.58 pm yesterday.

“Three members led by Sergeant (CD) Michael Awan Aing quickly went to the location.

“The python tried to escape towards the front of the laundry shop next to PMBS.

“However, with the skill of the APM members, the python was successfully captured within three minutes,” she told the media.

The captured python was then taken to the district operations control centre (PKOD) for further action. The operation concluded around 3.18 pm.

Huzaimah reminded the public to immediately contact APM in case of emergencies involving snakes, stressing that APM has trained personnel to handle such situations.
