150 longhouse residents attend session with leader

SARIKEI: About a total of 150 longhouse residents attended a ‘leader with the people session’ held at a longhouse near here.

Political secretary to Chief Minister Teng Ung Woo who graced the event said, the trust and support of the people towards the government is very important to ensure continuity of development.

He said the government will continue to reach out to people through social and welfare programmes to ensure that people are not marginalised in addition to finding solutions to the issues raised by them through appropriate approaches.

“We will continue the practice of meeting the people in line with the concept of prioritising the people. This is one of the most appropriate approaches to identify issues at the grassroots level.

“However, this will require the cooperation of the people. Therefore, we want them to always stand firmly behind the government.

“At the same time, support towards the government is very important because without it, what we have planned would not be successful,” he said at the ‘leader with people session’ held at Rumah Endawie, Sungai Batu Meruton, near here.

In fact, he said, the development project that was widely publicised by the government is not just promise because most of them have been implemented.

He also said that unity among the people is the most important foundation which can assist the government’s efforts to continue its development plans.

Teng said people also need to be united and strengthen their relationships to ensure lasting harmony.
