16 new positive cases recorded

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded another 16 positive Covid-19 cases yesterday.

“The addition of the new positive cases brings the total number of cases to 3,876 since the first positive case was reported on March 13,” said State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah during the daily update of Covid-19 at the new State Legislative Assembly building yesterday.

He said 116 new persons under investigation (PUI) cases were also recorded yesterday.

“With that the total of PUI cases recorded is 3,605. Out of this, 2,419 were negative and 49 are waiting for lab test results,” he said.

He revealed that Kuching recorded the highest number of new PUI cases with 59.

“This is followed by Serian (16), Miri (16), Samarahan (nine), while Bau, Simunjan and Bintulu each recorded four cases.”

Uggah, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, said Lundu, Betong, Julau and Mukah recorded one case each.

Uggah also revealed that there was an increase in the number of people arriving in the state, with 14 Sarawakians arriving from abroad or other parts of Malaysia.

“These arrivals bring the total to 1,091.

“They have all been placed as persons under surveillance in Kuching, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang,” he added.
