KUCHING: Sarawak police have discovered that 1,767 eligible police retirees have yet to receive the ‘Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Negara’ (PJPN).

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata revealed this in a press conference following the PJPN award ceremony at Dewan Pahlawan, Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) Headquarters here yesterday (Mar 6).

“According to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) e-Pesara portal, there are a total of 1,767 Sarawak police retirees eligible for the award. However, they have not yet been awarded the PJPN.

“Hence, I urged retired and former Sarawak police personnel to promptly register and update their data to apply for their well-deserved medals through the PDRM e-Pesara portal.

“They can register themselves or seek assistance from family members, or visit the Pension Affairs branch at the nearest District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further information,” he said.

Mancha also revealed that the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) is planning to conduct four more series of PJPN award ceremonies scheduled for April and July this year.

The first two series of award ceremonies this year saw a total of 374 retirees receiving their deserving medals.

He shared that Sarawak IPK has awarded the PJPN to a total of 3,435 police personnel, including 2,340 retirees and 1,075 active-duty officers, in 13 formal award ceremonies since 2014.

Only 20 police retirees received their awards informally at their residences due to health-related reasons.

The PJPN medals were bestowed in recognition of the heroic service, sacrifice, and devotion of police personnel to the country during significant historical periods, including the emergency era in Malaya from July 12, 1948 to July 21, 1960, the Communist Insurgency era from June 17, 1968 to Dec 2, 1989 and the emergency in Sabah and Sarawak from 1962 to Oct 17, 1990.
