18 months’ jail, whipping for grievous hurt

KUCHING: An unemployed man, who was charged with injuring his neighbour with a helmet, was sentenced to 18 months’ jail and one stroke of the rotan by the Sessions Court yesterday.

Judge Jason Juga meted out the sentence on Nickson Empeni after he pleaded guilty under Section 326 of the Penal Code.

The court ordered the sentence to run from yesterday.

Nickson admitted to injuring Chai Kai Hua, 34, with a helmet and causing the victim to suffer serious head injuries.

The accused committed the offence due to a misunderstanding at 10.02pm at Jalan Sungai Tengah near Banjaran Serapi on May 18.
