Miri: Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOPB) has awarded a sum totalling RM50,283.50 to 196 students from 34 schools in Sarawak under its Young Achievers Award (YAA) and Student Adoption Programme (SAP) 2019/2020 on Tuesday (Sept 15).

Despite the recovery movement control order (RMCO), SOPB managed to deliver the awards within two weeks of travel.

SOPB Management together with public relations personnel travelled across different regions such as Lambir, Marudi, Sebauh, Tatau, Sungai Asap and Balingian.

They visited the respective participating schools and made a simple handover adhering to RMCO standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Under its YAA programme, the group awarded RM25,840 to 146 students who  excelled in their academic pursuits in 2019 public examinations namely Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3), Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM).

The cash award and certificates of recognition were awarded to those deserving students to inspire and motivate local youngsters in achieving academic excellence.

Meanwhile, SOPB also granted cash incentive and stationery packs with a total of RM24,443.50 to eligible students under its SAP programme this year.

SAP is a part of SOPB’s CSR initiatives to provide financial support on educational needs to underprivileged children from primary and secondary schools within the vicinity of the Group’s operations.

A total of 50 needy students from low income families each received a one-off financial assistance as well as new school bags and stationeries.

This CSR initiative primarily focuses on motivating, encouraging and promoting education among the young generation in the rural areas.

It has made a concerted effort especially in lending a helping hand to the needy children and motivated them to become high achieving students and setting them on a path to appreciate continuous learning.

SOPB does not only focus on their oil palms business but also aims to grow together with local communities by helping them through various CSR initiatives.
