SERDANG: Interesting agriculture-themed activities with a modern and contemporary concept that is suitable for the whole family await visitors at the Agro Lifestyle cluster of the 2022 Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-tourism Exhibition (MAHA) being held at the Malaysia Agricultural Expo Park Serdang (MAEPS) here.

Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) general manager Kamarudin Dahuli said visitors would also get to experience becoming farmers themselves by trying the paddy harvesting and fishing simulator.

He said the programmes at the Agro Lifestyle cluster were held since Aug 4, with the last day on Aug 14.

“Visitors can experience becoming a farmer by operating the rice harvesting machine using a simulator. Admission is free, but they will have to queue for their turn.

“Apart from that, the Agro Lifestyle cluster also provides a fishing simulation where visitors can experience reeling their catch. There is also a prize for visitors who catch the biggest fish at MAHA,” he said when met at the Agro Lifestyle site in Dewan Hall D2, MAEPS, near here.

Kamarudin said the Agro Lifestyle cluster also offers unique menus that are hard to get in the federal capital, like the ‘Ubi Telampung’ which is the main dish at the Lifestyle Cafe which opens from 10am to 10pm at 2022 MAHA.

“Ubi telampung is cassava boiled in sugarcane sugar. We also have village-style food such as glutinous rice with dried salted fish, peknga (pancakes), roti benggali gulai ikan as well as rabbit satay,” he said.

He added various performances and cultural activities such as silat, musical group performances, Sabah and Melaka cultural dances and Dikir Barat were also held at the exhibition.

There are demonstrations on sewing and mending fish nets, removing corn kernels, honey harvesting, DIY mini aquascape, making chemical-free soap and demonstrations on halal test kits, cosmetics and food.

“We also have urban farming sales promotion under Agro DIY for visitors who are interested in getting what they need to implement their own urban farming, as well as on cat-grooming, which is held in collaboration with the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS),” he said.

In conjunction with MAHA 2022, MADA was appointed as the lead agency for the Agro Lifestyle Cluster in collaboration with various departments and agencies including DVS, Fisheries Department of Fisheries, Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) and the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM). – BERNAMA
