MUKAH: Some 23 less fortunate individuals received ang pow (monetary gifts in red packets) from the Mukah Chinese Community Benevolent Society here on Saturday (Jan 22).

The society chairman Yeo Tiong Ing said it was an annual programme organised in conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year celebration and each recipient was given RM350.

“The society hopes that the contribution will help lessen the burden of the recipients in their preparation for the coming celebration,” he said.

According to him, the individuals were mostly regular recipients and were selected based on their socioeconomic standing.

He hoped that other non-governmental organisations would also come forward to help them.

The society’s other committee members also attended the simple but meaningful event.
