23 more fall to deadly coronavirus

KUCHING: The state recorded 23 new Covid-19 fatalities on Thursday (Oct 14), including five brought-in dead (BID) cases, comprising mostly of elderly people.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update, said all death cases occurred on Oct 1 (one), Oct 4 (one), Oct 8 (four) and between Oct 10 and Oct 13 (17).

“On Oct 1, a BID case involved an 83-year-old man from Betong and was brought in to Saratok Hospital.

“The elderly man, however, did not have any history or background of comorbidities.

“On Oct 4, a man from Sri Aman, 74, passed away at Sri Aman Hospital and had a history of high blood pressure and dyslipidemia,” it said.

There were four deaths recorded on Oct 8, one of which involved a 27-year-old woman from Betong, the youngest among the 23 fatalities, and passed away at Saratok Hospital. She suffered from obesity.

On the same date, a 72-year-old woman from Bintulu passed away and was brought in to Bintulu Hospital. She suffered from high blood pressure and diabetes.

“A woman, 76, and man, 80, both from Samarahan passed away in Simunjan Hospital on Oct 8.

“The woman had a history of high blood pressure, dyslipidemia and chronic obstructive lung disease while the man also had high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidemia and chronic kidney disease,” said SDMC.

Between Oct 10 and Oct 13, SDMC noted that most Covid-19 deaths occurred on Oct 11, with a total of nine cases.

On Oct 11, a 93-year-old woman from Sibu passed away at Sibu Hospital.

She had a history of comorbidities suchas high blood pressure and diabetes.

“Another death case on Oct 11 involved a 91-year-old man from Sri Aman, who passed away at Sri Aman Hospital. He had high blood pressure, dyslipidemia and heart disease.

“On the same date, an 88-year-old woman from Bintulu passed away at Bintulu Hospital. She had diabetes and dyslipidemia,” added the committee.

Meanwhile, another woman, 56, from Serian, passed away at Serian Hospital on Oct 11. She was suffering from cancer.

A man from Samarahan, 51, passed away at Simunjan Hospital on Oct 11 and he had suffered from obesity, the committee added.

Another death involved a 73-year-old man from Sibu. He passed away at Sibu Hospital and had no comorbidities.

On Oct 10, a 52-year-old man, who was a person with disability, had died and his body was brought in to Sri Aman Hospital.

Another fatality case on Oct 10 involved a woman from Sri Aman, 79. Her body was brought in to Sri Aman Hospital. She had a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidemia and chronic kidney disease.
