KUCHING: A total of 232 participants with 60 vehicles of different makes and models joined the “Kembara Merdeka Negaraku” yesterday.

The convoy was co-organised by Sarawak Information Department, Kuching Resident’s Office and Kuching District Office.

Minister of Public Works, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof officiated at Kuching, Samarahan, and Serian Information Department Office compound, there.

According to Fadillah, the event aimed to foster the spirit of appreciating the Independence Day in conjunction with the upcoming National Day.

“People should know the history of our country, and how Malaysia was formed to avoid the misunderstanding among society.

“Even though we claim our Sarawak rights it doesn’t mean we want to go out from Malaysia; the rights that we claim are those that had been established during the formation in 1963,” said Fadillah.

The convoy made a pit stop at Telaga Air and ended at the residence of Tanjung Datu Assemblywoman, Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu.
