SIBU: A total of 2,400 participants have confirmed their participation in the “Rakyat Sihat, Sarawakku Makmur” Fun Run event, to be held to celebrate Sarawak’s 60 years of independence.

The event, organised by the Chinese Community Leaders Association of Sibu Division, is scheduled to start at 6 am at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang here on June 18.

Its chairman Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming said the event is jointly organised by the Sibu Resident Office, United Chinese Association (UCA) of Sibu Division, X-Sports Club, Underground Runner, and Swan Sibu Cycling Club.

“We initially targeted 2,000 participants, but we did not expect such a positive response from the public for this run,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

Lau said that there are two running categories, namely the 3km and 5km races, and all participants who successfully complete the run will receive a medal and qualify for lucky draws.

“There are five grand prizes awaiting those fortunate winners. The grand prize is a bicycle worth RM2,200, and there will be 15 consolation prizes,” he said.
