MIRI:  The beach cleaning programme carried out by Miri Secondhand and Recycle Dealers Association on Sunday (Dec 6) morning collected a total of 2,000 kg of garbage and 500 kg of plastic bottles and plastic materials.

Eighty committee members and members of the association as well as their family members participated in the event held at Marina Bay.

Also present were Transport Minister and also Senadin assemblyman Datuk Lee Kim Shin and Miri Mayor Adam Yii.

The programme was an annual event for the association.

The event aimed to increase public awareness of environmental pollution, especially plastic pollution in Miri and encourage the public to recycle plastic materials.

In his opening remarks, Lee commended the association for having organised a number of beach cleaning campaigns and working with the Miri City Council in its Local Agenda programmes.

The formation of the association about three years ago (Year 2017) was mooted by Lee.
