SIBU: Twenty-nine residents of Lorong Teku here are facing anxiety because their housing developer has been declared a bankrupt and their dream homes have yet to be issued their Occupation Permit (OP).

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth chief Michael Tiang said the housing developer went bankrupt after ten years of operating and therefore, legal action must be taken.

“I went to the project development site and talked with the residents there and discussed their problems,” he said.

Tiang also stated one of the reasons why the landowners could not get the OP is due to the infrastructure of the building which is not 100 percent complete.

“They have to talk to the bank to discuss utilising the remaining balance to construct and complete the development of the houses, following Sibu Municipal Council’s (SMC) requirements so that the OP can be issued,” he added.

Tiang said he had agreed to provide the residents with legal consultation and to create a channel to find the best solution in solving the project.

“I am very optimistic that SMC will look into more practical solutions in solving the people’s problem as it is not their fault, but the housing developer’s,” he said.
