KUCHING: Three locals were busted by traffic police for performing dangerous stunts while riding their motorcycles in an operation codenamed ‘Ops Samseng Jalanan’.

According to the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, the operation was held from Jalan Gersik to Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub on Friday (Aug 18).

In the operation, the team apprehended three men for performing dangerous stunts with their motorcycles.

“The suspects were performing wheelie stunts by lifting the motorcycle’s front tyre and riding only on the rear tyre, as well as leaning forward and riding in a zig-zag manner, which could endanger other road users.

“If convicted under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, the riders may face up to RM15,000 in fines and up to five years in jail, as well as driving licence disqualification for up to five years,” the department said.

The operation on Friday was carried out by the department’s deputy chief DSP Rafhan Kepli, and assisted by traffic enforcement staff officer ASP Mohd Azlizi Razali, along with seven traffic policemen.

With this, the department assured that such an operation will be carried out from time to time to address this negative activity in order to maintain the safety of other road users.

In addition, parents are also reminded to constantly monitor their children’s activities so that they do not fall into harmful ones for the sake of their future.
