31 mission schools in Kuching and Serian get RM4.1mil

KUCHING: A total of 31 mission schools in Kuching and Serian have received cheques amounting to RM4.1mil.

From the number, 13 schools are from Kuching while the other 18 comprised primary schools from Serian.

The cheque handover ceremony was officiated by Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, who is also advisor to the Mission Authority Roman Catholic, Archdiocese of Kuching, at Bangunan Baitul Makmur 1 here recently.

Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) director Datuk Jack Aman Luat, who was represented by Low Suk Fung at the event, said that this year is the third year that the Sarawak government has provided financial assistance to mission schools in the state.

The main purpose of the grant is to assist schools in managing, improving and upgrading their infrastructure needs.

Also present were Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang, Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kuching Archdiocese, Simon Poh.
