31 nabbed during drug raid

KUCHING: Thirty-one individuals were rounded up in a 10-day narcotic operation codenamed ‘Op Tapis’ in the district.

Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah, who confirmed the case, said the operation from Feb 3 to 13 was carried out by the district’s narcotics crime division.

Among the locations inspected were Kampung Tupong, Tabuan Dusun and Taman Sri Sarawak.

“The team managed to arrest 27 men and four women aged between 17 and 53, who were suspected of being involved in substance abuse.

“In addition, 646.59g of drugs believed to be methamphetamine, were also seized,” he said.

The breakdown of cases investigated were one case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952; one case under Section 39A (1); two cases under Section 12 (2); and 26 cases under Section 15 (1)(a).

Background checks found 10 of the suspects had various past records related to drugs.

Ahsmon added that the police also arrested four hard-core drug addicts under Section 39C of the same Act 1952.
