KUCHING: The first batch of 337 households have successfully relocated to the new Darul Hana development area.

Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said these groups from Kampung Panglima Seman Lama, Kampung Semarang and Lot Tambahan are the pioneer residents of the Darul Hana development area.

“A lot of effort and financial allocation has been provided by the state government to ensure the development process of Darul Hana into a modern village in Kuching runs smoothly.

“These efforts are to provide better well-being for the community and future generations,” he said.

He said this in his welcome speech during the handover ceremony of the land titles, land compensations, and house keys to the house owners which was officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday.

The Darul Hana Housing Development is part of the Sarawak government’s urban renewal programme involving 12 villages from Kampung Boyan to Kampung Bintawa which includes 2,607 families, 1,819 heads of households and 16,986 residents.

Dr Abdul Rahman earlier said the rapid development of Kuching as a city has had a major impact on the people including the traditional villages.

“The number of houses and households in Kampung Seberang Hilir has also increased from year to year and this has caused this village to have a limited area of land that has become increasingly crowded with residential houses.

“These have made it difficult to implement other developments such as roads, drainage systems and others.

“Therefore, the Sarawak government has come out with the Seberang Hilir Village Redevelopment Plan as a long-term solution to this matter which was announced by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud in 2011,” he said, adding that these efforts were continued by the late chief minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem and now by Abang Johari.

He added prior to the commencement of the programme, many community engagements together with the implementing agency were held.

“I would like to convey my appreciation to the village community for accepting this project and for the support from various parties including government departments that act as implementing agencies in making this development project a success,” he said.
