KUCHING: The Tasik Biru Festival which will start this Friday is expected to attract some 40,000 local and international visitors.

Bau District Officer and organising chairperson of the festival Anielia Sitam, in a statement yesterday, said the event, which was celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, aimed to popularise and promote Tasik Biru as a tourist destination as well as introduce Bau’s unique water sports event.

“Interesting activities during the three-day event include jong regatta, Miss Tasik Biru, arm wrestling, e-sport competition and Tasik Biru Saberkas Run.

“Other programmes to be held are local agricultural products sales, exhibitions by government agencies, boat rides, cultural performances, zumba and many more.

“Apart from that, Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep is expected to launch the Tasik Biru One-Stop Centre (OSC) on Saturday,” she said.

Anielia also hoped the local community would be able to generate more additional income through this festival.

The event is expected to be officiated by Infrastructure and Ports Development Assistant Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi on Friday while the closing ceremony on Sunday will be graced by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
