612 new cases in Sarawak

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 612 Covid-19 positive cases today (May 21), bringing the state’s tally to 40,871.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 369 cases or 60.29 percent of the new cases were detected in Miri, Bintulu, Sibu, Kapit, and Kuching districts.

Sibu district accounted for 108 new cases; (103), Miri (86), Kuching (72), Kapit (40), Sarikei (30), Kanowit (26), Mukah (25), Selangau (17), Belaga (14), Samarahan (11), Saratok (10), Pusa (nine), Subis (nine), Sebauh (eight), Sri Aman (seven), Pakan (seven), Tatau (six), Bukit Mabong (five), Betong (five), Serian (four), Meradong (three), Asajaya (two), and one each in Daro, Dalat, Lawas, Tebedu, and Song districts.

“A total of 77 out of the 612 cases are individuals who were symptomatic during the Covid-19 screening.

“Hence, 480 individuals had been instructed to undergo quarantine at designated places,” it said in their statement.

“In short, 430 new cases were screened after having contact with positive cases, 81 from other screenings in health facilities, 51 cases were screening of symptomatic individuals in health facilities, and 50 were individuals linked to active clusters,” it added.

Meanwhile, it reported that 480 patients had recovered and were discharged from hospitals statewide.

Of these, 118 were from Kapit Hospital and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) under it; Miri Hospital and PKRC under it (69); Sarawak General Hospital and the PKRC under it (64); Bintulu Hospital and PKRC under it (62); Sibu Hospital and PKRC under it (50); Sarikei Hospital and PKRC under it (35); PKRC Serian (26); PKRC Betong (22); Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC under it (20); and PKRC Mukah (14).

This brings the number of recovered and discharged cases thus far to 34,022 or 83.24 percent of the total number of cases in Sarawak.

“There are 6,510 individuals still undergoing treatment at PKRCs and hospital isolation wards in the state.

“A total of 612 persons-under-investigation (PUIs) have been reported with none waiting for laboratory test results,” it reported.
