62 arrested for various drug offences

The four drug suspects who were arrested in a joint operation by Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) and Saratok IPD.

KABONG: A total of 62 persons here have been arrested for various drug offences from January to June this year.  

The statistic covers all areas under Saratok district police headquarters (IPD) including Saratok, Kabong and Roban districts.  

Forty-two of those arrested were tested positive for drugs while the rest were negative, said Saratok district police chief Supt Mordani Tanin.  

He said four men aged between 21 and 34 years, were arrested after testing positive for drugs at Kabong beach on Friday.  

The youngest suspect is a 21-year-old unemployed youth from Kampung Hulu Kabong who was tested positive for methamphetamine.  

Also tested positive for methamphetamine was a 25-year-old unemployed youth from Kampung Hulu Lintang, Kabong. 

Two other suspects aged 28 and 34 years, were tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.  

“All of them are detained and investigated under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.  

Mordani said police had seized a total of 42.06g of drugs believed to be syabu during the Jan-Jun period.

He told that in 2019, a total of 79 individuals were arrested for drug-related offences, out of which 46 were tested positive.
