SIBU: Some 70,000 youth here have yet to register for the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme.

This was revealed by political secretary to chief minister Michael Tiang when met here on Sunday (May 23).

Hence, he urged the group to come forward and register in order to be inoculated soon.

He emphasised that it was very important to achieve the target of having 190,000 people vaccinated in Sibu to achieve herd immunity.

“Our target for Sibu is to vaccinate 190,000 people and so far, according to the latest data, we only have around 110,000 people who have already registered for the vaccine.

“There are still about 70,000 youth who have not registered so far,” he said.

Tiang explained that although the youth are more likely to use smartphones, they have not yet registered with the MySejahtera application for the programme.

“It is true that many youth have not registered. Therefore, I would like to urge them to do so.

“We need as many people to be vaccinated because it’s important for us in heading towards recovery.

“This is to make Sibu safer and reduce the spread of the virus,” he said.

In addition, he informed that vaccination forms were also available from the Sibu District Office or any SUPP branch here.

He advised the public not to worry too much about the type of vaccine brought in by the government from foreign countries.

According to him, any vaccine purchased has the same role and function which is to reduce the risk of infection, effects and transmission of Covid-19.

“A good vaccine is the first vaccine given to you. So don’t easily believe inaccurate news about vaccines.

“As a youth, you have to be smart to evaluate and think long and hard. The future of Sibu to recover depends on the vaccine,” he added.
