KOTA SAMARAHAN: A total of 96 members of the Royal Signals Regiment (RSR) received new ranks from First Malaysian Infantry Division Commander, Major-General Datuk Stephen Mundaw during a ceremony held at Kem Muara Tuang here, yesterday.

The recipients comprised a lieutenant who was promoted to captain, two Level 2 Warrant Officers promoted to Level 1 Warrant Officers, a Sergeant promoted to Staff Sergeant, nine Corporals promoted to Sergeants, 12 Lance Corporals to Corporals and 71 Signalmen/Signalwomen to Lance Corporals.

The ceremony was held simultaneously with the Peninsular Zone at PTD Compound, Kem Sungai Besi and Kem Lok Kawi in Sabah.

“Congratulations to the recipients and I hope that this conferring of new ranks will boost your spirit to fight and serve with commitment,” Mundaw said.

He also announced that 20 border posts comprising 15 in Sarawak and five in Sabah will be built.

“We have already identified the locations and at the same time we are also collaborating with the Royal Malaysian Police where they will also set up their posts and also to man the ICQS (Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security) Complex that will be established soon.

“The most important thing is that these posts will help to strengthen ties between us and TNI (Indonesia National Army) as we monitor the border areas together.

“The border posts can accommodate from a platoon to a company. We are still doing the planning in our effort to establish the forward operational base to support the new posts,” he said.

Mundaw also assured that the project will commence this year and expected to be completed by the end of the year.

“We are still on a recruitment drive and those accepted will undergo training before they are deployed. So far, we have only achieved 30 per cent and are expecting to reach 50 per cent by the end of this year,” Mundaw said.
