99.7pct of Tuesday’s new cases Category 1 and 2

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 1,983 Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (Sept 14), a significant decrease of 1,539 from the previous day’s total of 3,522.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said of Tuesday’s total, 1,977 or 99.7 per cent were Category 1 and 2 cases while six cases or 0.3 per cent were Category 3, 4 and 5.

“There were 1,505 cases or 75.90 per cent in Category 1 (no symptoms) and 472 cases or 23.80 per cent in Category 2 (mild symptoms).

“Category 3 (lung infections) and Category 4 (lung infections and requiring oxygen) recorded one case or 0.05 per cent respectively, while Category 5 recorded four cases or 0.20 per cent.”

Kuching District reported the most cases at 561 followed by Bintulu (355); Serian (257); Sibu (145); Miri (88); Sri Aman (73); Lubok Antu (59); 48 each in Bau and Tebedu; Saratok (42); 36 each in Limbang and Belaga; 31 each in Kapit and Subis; Pusa (28); Sarikei (23); Simunjan (17); 15 each in Samarahan and Song; Tatau (14) and Betong (12).

There were eight cases reported in Meradong; Lundu (seven); six each in Sebauh and Selangau; Lawas (five); four each in Beluru and Telang Usan; Bukit Mabong (three); two each in Asajaya and Kanowit; one each in Mukah and Julau.

“This brings the total number of positive cases in the state thus far to 162,303.

“1,386 of the new cases consisted of individuals who were close contacts to Covid-19 positive cases while 80 were individuals in existing clusters.

“206 cases were from screenings of symptomatic individuals at health facilities and 311 cases from other screenings at health facilities.”

On another note, SDMC said 2,514 cases had recovered and discharged from the respective hospitals and Covid-19 quarantine and low risk treatment centres statewide.

“This brings the number of recovered and discharged cases to 120,719 or 74.38 per cent of the total number of cases in Sarawak. There are still 40,700 active cases in the state.”
