KUCHING: A group of Sarawak activists for change calling themselves Sovereigntists will hold a citizens’ assembly named the Sarawak People’s Congress 2020 on May 2 next year.
The congress will focus on the themes of sovereignty, self-determination and solidarity.
A Committee of Convenors assigned to specific tasks will manage the conduct and administration of the congress.
Lina Soo will be in charge of the programme; Hugh Lawrence Zehnder takes care of finance and budget, while Chris Goh will be in-charge of administration and governance.
The Area Convenors are Andrew Uhwut (Lundu), Buln Ribos (Bau), Mason Tok (Siburan), David Gubah (Serian), Anuar Hamid (Bintulu) and Fong Pau Teck (Miri).
The papers to be presented at the Congress include Sarawak Sovereignty — Past, Present, Future; Self-Determination under United Nations Charter Article 1 Para 2 and Article 55 Para 1; Ownership and Economic Rights of Sarawak Oil and Gas and Sarawak Economic Sustainability Study and Shadow Budget.
The congress incorporates Breakout Sessions for open discussions on a roadmap for a brighter Sarawak future which will be conducted in three languages — English, Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin.
It will also cover a session on native customary land (NCR) land code. An additional training session which is optional, on ‘Activism for Change’ will also be provided upon popular request.
The congress will culminate in a resolution passed by the majority of informed Sarawakians and then delivered to the Sarawak and Federal governments.
All participants of the Congress will receive a certificate of participation.
