KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing has commended the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee’s (SDMC) stand on the conditional movement control order (CMCO).
He reiterated that Sarawak would follow the CMCO with slight modifications to suit the state’s needs as announced by SDMC chairman and Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas on Tuesday (May 5).
“After all, one size does not fit all. I am sure Putrajaya would understand our reasons in modifying the CMCO’s instructions,” said Masing yesterday.
Meanwhile, he noted that on Monday (May 4), Sarawak had registered no new positive Covid-19 cases, describing this as a good achievement by the state’s health workers and SDMC.
He questioned why the Health Ministry (MoH) had posted on its Facebook page on the same day (May 4) that there had been a new cluster when these cases were infected from the Sri Petaling tabligh gathering, which had already been identified as a cluster weeks prior.
“The question is why now? In fighting Covid-19, we are fighting the coronavirus. We are not contesting against each other nor are we contesting with different health departments in Malaysia or with MoH as to who can do better in stopping the spread of Covid-19.
“Please do not politicise our battle against Covid-19. It is our common enemy which we must beat. Together we stand, and together we will break the chain of spread of the virus,” he said.
