KUCHING: Teachers will always be ready to guide their students to achieve success — be it face-to-face or even via online learning, said Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) president Macky Joseph.

He described teachers as people who are always hungry for knowledge and will not get tired of equipping themselves with a wide range of knowledge, skills and values in line with the principle of lifelong learning.

He noted that amidst Covid-19 situation in the state, teachers are worried over their pupils’ education. As such, teachers even took the initiative to teach their students online via various platforms such as Google classroom, WhatsApp, and so on.

“Teachers had given a lot in grooming the children steadily in education so that they can grow and becoming a successor of any profession in the future.

“Thus, we must be thankful for the contributions of teachers as they are the ones who taught us to be who we are today,” he said in a statement yesterday.

“Teachers Day is celebrated on May 16 every year to acknowledge and honour the contributions and sacrifices of teachers in educating, guiding and shaping our children,” he said.

Macky also thanked the government alongside the Education Ministry and the State Education Department in ensuring that the teaching profession is equipped with their needs.

He also thanked the parents and guardians in the efforts to have their children engage with education.
