Zero case for eight straight days

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded no new positive Covid-19 case for the eighth consecutive day today. The total number of positive cases remains at 552.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said three patients had recovered and were discharged yesterday – two from Sarawak General Hospital and one from Sibu Hospital.

“Thus far, the total number of Covid-19 cases which have recovered and been discharged is 523 or 94.75 percent,” he told reporters during a Covid-19 daily update held at the Old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building in Petra Jaya today.

He added that on the same day there were 20 new persons under investigation (PUI) while 21 cases were still awaiting laboratory results.

He also said to date a total of 45,988 home surveillance orders (quarantine orders) had been issued. Of these, 36,235 had completed their home quarantine (release order) while 9,753 were still under home surveillances.

Based on statistics from Sarawak Health Department, there were 12 cases undergoing treatment at hospitals to date with none on intensive care or requiring breathing assistance.

Uggah added, “So far, a total of 46,059 individuals had taken polymerase chain reaction test (PCR) for Covid-19 in the state. Of these, 34,921 were close and casual contacts of positive cases as well as those entering the state by air, land or sea. A total of 11,138 samples were students of public and private higher learning institutions from inside and outside the state.”

A total of 6,634 applications for inter-district travel was received by all police headquarters statewide, bringing the cumulative total to 102,359.

“Of these, 93,662 have been approved and 8,697 were rejected,” he said.

Also yesterday, 10 persons were arrested for violating the CMCO while one was compounded for attempting to make inter-district travel without permission.

He also mentioned that so far the Ministry of Local Government and Housing had received notifications from 23,321 businesses and industry players.
