KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will revoke or suspend trading licences of business owners who do not comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the recovery movement control order (RMCO).

Its mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said, even though all directives and regulations come from the federal government and State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), councils still play their role as enforcement agencies, aside from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM).

“Local councils are part of the enforcement agencies in the city, therefore MBKS will take actions against those who refuse to abide to the SOPs,” he told the reporters after a walkabout at Stutong Community Market here, on Sunday.

Asked if the council has caught business operators that did not follow the new SOPs which began on Saturday (August 1), Wee revealed that their officers had given warnings to several errant operators.

“If they still refuse to abide by the new business operating hours SOP (6am to 10pm), the council will step it and take action to revoke and suspend their trading licence.

“Not only that, they will also have to pay the RM1,000 penalty for not adhering to the directives,” he stated.

He told that MBKS had prepared brochures on the recommended precautionary practices which would be put up at eateries, markets and public areas.

“We want everyone to be vigilant and take the SOPs seriously in order to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“Please, remember to maintain the one-metre social distancing, practise the highest standard of hygiene and always wash your hands regularly,” he advised.
