LIMBANG: The Information Department’s ‘Sepakat @ New Norma Cultural Community Programme: Break the Covid-19 Chain’ held at Rumah Tugang in Ulu Lubai here on Monday (Oct 5) focused on the ‘we take care of ourselves’ idea.

Batu Danau assemblyman, Paulus Gumbang, believes that the implementation of the programme has achieved its objective of educating, raising public awareness and preventing the spread of the pandemic.

He added that refraining from shaking hands should also be practised at this crucial time as it is a new norm.

Besides that, Paulus also stressed that all parties must practice the 3W, referring to ‘Wash’ (often wash hands with water and soap), ‘Wear’ (always use face mask when in public and crowded) and ‘Warn’ (always sensitive to warning from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH)).

“The public should also avoid 3C, which are Crowded Places (congested areas), Confined Spaces (narrow areas) and Close Conversation (speaking at close range),” he said.

Aziz delivers his speech during the programme.

State Information Department deputy director, Aziz Abdul Rahman, stated in his speech that the programme was aimed at increasing the understanding of the people through two-way interactions during a question-and-answer session.

“It also aims to help break the Covid-19 chain by getting the public to always practise preventive measures and self-control early although the people are quite far from urban centres.”

On fake news, Aziz also stressed that the public should not pay attention to them or create them. News should be checked for truthfulness before being shared with others.

Earlier, Tuai Rumah Tugang thanked the Information Department for having gone to his longhouse to carry out the programme. He was sure that his people would benefit from it.

Also present at the programme were walikota of Limbang District Council, Sufian Mohat; Limbang Deputy District Officer Hafiz Kipli; Limbang District Information Officer Linda Padan; department heads, community leaders and local leaders.
