KUCHING: Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) is taking over the stewardship of Sarawak onshore oil and gas said its chairman Tan Sri Hamid Bugo.

“I am happy to announce that Petros will be the steward of Sarawak’s onshore oil and gas activities.

“We have revisited our purpose which is to harness our resources for the sustainable progress of Sarawak and to deliver on our growth strategy both in the upstream and downstream,” he said.

The Petros chief said the company shares Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s vision on achieving a vibrant high income and advanced economy for the state by the year 2030.

“Besides that, we want to help increase the foreign direct investment (FDI) to RM100 billion by 2030 and to contribute as the economic growth engine, mining and its exploration towards high value downstream,” he added.

Hamid said Petros must spur the implementation of the Sarawak Gas Masterplan which is expected to contribute about ten percent of the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by the year 2030.

“We have a shared vision of high value economic prosperity that needs real transformation for our industry to be fully realised.

“The extractive mining industry including oil and gas has been identified as an economic growth engine for Sarawak high income and developed state by 2030.

“Petros aims to contribute by proactively looking for ways to do things differently and we shall continue to collaborate as industry catalyst to grow the market for Petros as well as equally for the state’s players and partners,” he said.
