Unimas bagged multiple awards at the recent MAKUM Art Award 2019 Ceremony.

KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) bagged multiple awards at the recent Makum Art Awards organised by the Universities Cultural Council of Malaysia (Makum).

Two of the university’s students, Joe Unus from the Faculty of Science Cognitive and Human Development won gold while Zanalia Natasha Raduan from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities won silver in the Bonang Makum Award. 

The university’s Cultural Body (Bayu) also won silver in the Gambang Mastika Makum Award, which recognises groups, clubs or associations for having a good record in management, organisation as well as participation in arts and cultural activities at university, state, national, international and Makum levels.

Meanwhile, the university also won bronze in the Gong Kencang Makum Award for its active participation in programmes organised by Makum. 

The Gendang Sari Makum Award for public university officers was awarded to Noor Azrul Mohd Ariff and Thomas Lamada for their diligence in improving the quality of Makum through active contributions in organising and coordinating Makum activities that uphold the nation’s cultural heritage.

Suzana Tang Long, Sabrina Sabri and Sity Assiah Sebiki were also awarded the Lambang Sari Makum Award for their support and commitment.

The virtual event took place last Dec 30, and it was declared open by Higher Education director-general Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak.

The biennial awards aim to give recognition to students in public universities for their success and commitment in developing and participating in arts and cultural activities.
