KUCHING: Students, teachers and parents are advised to use the daily free 1GB data or the monthly 30GB, which have been extended until April, for teaching-learning purposes at home.

“The allocated free data since April 2020 is an addition to the existing data and subscription packages and can be used for accessing video conference platforms as well as managing teaching materials via email throughout the day with no time restrictions.

“However, it does not apply to social media browsing, video streaming, online games and music streaming,” the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said in a statement.

In addition, the telecommunications industry also provides special subscription packages for students who will sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM), and Institut Pelajaran Tinggi (IPT) students from Jan 6 until the end of April this year.

“The MCMC always welcomes assistance from service providers such as Celcom, Digi, Maxis, UMobile and Telekom Malaysia (TM), to participate in helping the success of PdPR.

“The prepaid package by Celcom, Digi, Maxis, UMobile and TM offers a 15GB data pass for as low as RM20 per month. Users of this package can also enjoy additional 1GB of free data daily as similar as other package customers.”

Meanwhile, YTL Communication Sdn Bhd (YTL) also extended its Learn from Home (LFH) initiative, which   included the IPT students, until April 30. This special package provides a free SIM card with 40GB of data, free content, and free phones for students from the B40 family.

“All these efforts are expected to reduce the burden on the parents, teachers, and students in following PdPR along with ensuring the education of the younger generation is prioritised.”
