PUSA: The Year of the Ox was ushered in early with gifts of Mandarin oranges and ang pows distributed to teachers at SJKC Chung Hua Pusa’s and some 67 Chinese households here on Tuesday.

The contributions were donated by Batang Lupar MP Datuk Seri Rohani Karim and were presented at a simple ceremony.

Officiating at the ceremony was Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Pusa branch chairman Datuk Lim Kian Choon.

Lim surprised a total of 30 senior citizens at the ceremony when he gave them RM100 ang pows.

After the ceremony, Lim admitted that unlike previously celebrated CNY, 2021’s Chinese New Year would certainly be different due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We have no choice but to celebrate the auspicious occasion under the new norms and strict compliance of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the authorities on the CNY festival.

“We must also make sure that celebrants will comply with the SOPs to break the chain of infections and for the benefit of everyone else, the state and country,” he added.
