SRI AMAN: A search is now on for a 61-year-old fisherman who is believed to have been attacked by a crocodile in Batang Skrang.

Some witnesses said they saw the man diving into the water to retrieve his hook that was stuck to something in the middle of the river. That was when he disappeared.

Firemen from Betong were despatched to the scene to assess the situation and to gather information after receiving a distress call around 6pm.

A search and rescue operations was soon organised and it started the next day (Monday) with rescuers covering a radius of about two kilometres upstream and downstream from where Taid was last seen.

The operations involved a total of 58 personnel and 10 boats from the police, Civil Defense Force (APM) and local villagers.
